Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve is elated to announce, that as per the latest Government Gazette, intra-provincial leisure travel has been approved.
For this reason, Kagga Kamma is open for leisure travellers who reside in the Western Cape province. As we work to prepare Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve for your imminent arrival, rest assured that our dedicated team will comply with government's industry-specific stringent controls and measures, as well as our own health and safety protocols to provide you with a safe holiday environment. Further updates will be provided with regards to inter-provincial travel as soon as information is supplied by the Department of Tourism.
With the increase in COVID-19 cases in South Africa and the recent surge within Gauteng, the government has issued more stringent regulations in terms of amendments to the Regulations issued in terms of section 27(2) of the Disaster Management Act, 2002 applicable to Alert Level 3 ('Regulations').
Kindly be advised that due to this most recent presidential address and the new regulations to be enforced, that leisure travel is not permitted under level 3 regulations. Please understand that in the best interest and safety of our guests, as well as our staff, and to ensure we abide by the South African lockdown laws, we have had no choice but to suspend the occupation of Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve for intra-provincial leisure travel purposes. We have also been advised that government may look to re-engage with the tourism industry about the possibility of opening accommodation facilities again for intra-provincial leisure purposes. We hope and trust that this will happen within the next month. We thank you for your ongoing support and will provide an update as soon as further information becomes available.
As announced in the South African presidential address on the eve of the 17th of June 2020, President Cyril Ramaphosa stated that the further easing of restrictions on certain economic activities, such as accredited and licensed accommodation, will soon come into effect. While we eagerly await the specific and stringent safety requirements and protocols necessary, as well as the permitted date for continued operations, know that Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve is ecstatic and cannot wait to receive shareholders and guests.
The Kagga Kamma Team's focus, in the coming days, lies in preparing your preferred Resort for your imminent arrival. Last night, on the 24th of May 2020, President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation with plans to slowly reopen the economy by phasing into level 3 of the 5 level risk-adjusted strategy from the 01st of June 2020. While this is a step in the right direction to return to normal operations, kindly note that, as part of the tourism and hospitality sector, Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve will remain closed to the public. South African Tourism Minister, Nkhensani Kubayi-Ngubane, has informed the sector that lodging and accommodation must remain closed, under government regulation, until the phasing in of level 1.
The Kagga Kamma team believes that self-catering Resorts are perfect for social-distancing-friendly holidays. Families can prepare their meals and enjoy each other’s company in the comfort of their own space and accommodation. While the Kagga Kamma team stands with other key tourism industry properties to allow self-catering holidays to reopen, we remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for shareholders and guests to return to and will continue to monitor the on-going communications to reopen the tourism sector sooner. As addressed in his speech, the President mentioned the collective proposals being considered, which have been put forth by the tourism sector to prepare and reopen the industry. While we do not yet know when this will be, our hope remains that we will be able to welcome you to the Lodge soonest.
We thank you for your support and patience as we navigate these trying times.
In accordance with the presidential address on the 23rd of April 2020, Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve will be adhering to the nationwide lockdown and will remain closed to the public, until it is deemed safe and appropriate to return to normal operations. As per the 5-level-risk-adjusted strategy imposed by the South African government, the tourism industry, as informed by Minister Nkhensani Kubayi-Ngubane, will only be allowed to reopen at Level 1. This will mean that the Lodge will, at this stage, be allowed to welcome check-ins after the lockdown has been lifted.
Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve is working diligently in this time to prepare the Resort for reopening, implementing viable management solutions for the safety of all our guests. We humbly ask for your patience in regards to service levels as we navigate this challenging time together.
In line with the Presidential address on 09 April 2020, we will strictly be adhering to the enforcement of the lockdown. Government has ordered South Africans to stay at home except for essential purposes and has ordered all non-essential services to suspend operations until further notice.
Also, please be advised that, in line with official COVID-19 advisories and the legislated lock down, our VRS Head Office and all associated and satellite offices will be closed during the lockdown period. Our usual online options remain available. Please be advised that we do have contingency plans in place to enable us to continue working remotely, on a skeleton staff basis, to provide for urgent and essential services ongoing.
Thank you kindly for your ongoing support and understanding in this regard
Kindly take note that in compliance with government regulations, Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve will be on lockdown from the 26th of March 2020 until the 16th of April 2020.
This means that we will not be allowing any persons onto the property for the aforementioned period. We ask that you please consider postponing your stay to a later date as we work towards preserving the tourism sector within South Africa, together. For assistance in this regard, kindly be in touch with our team at email@example.com.
During this time please rest assured that we are still committed to your health and safety and it is our number one priority. The images and texts on the website do not do justice to the amazing experience on the ground. I am a frequent traveller within the Western Cape, and this is surely one of my top recommendations. Needless to talk about the landscape and the pristine silence and beauty; the real deal for us was the service. What will take us back to Kagga Kamma is the service. Thank you, Kagga Kamma!

We stayed in the Self-Catering Chalet and loved every minute. It was the third time that we visited the establishment and it remains one of our favourite places. This time we upgraded one evening's accommodation to the Star Suite to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. It was an amazing experience and one of my all-time highlights. The Open Air Suite exceeded all our expectations. We loved the natural rock pool, the fire place, the comfortable bed, the wonderful setting of the outdoor shower and bath, the bath robes, the sunset, the spectacular view and the stars. The stars felt so close and were absolutely breath-taking. This was a bucket list experience.
