Cosy Cederberg Cottages
There are numerous types of dwellings in South Africa, as elsewhere, although each type may differ slightly from country to country. Nevertheless, cottages evoke a sense of cosiness that one expects to find in a somewhat smaller, more compact dwelling.
In this country, a cottage is usually a single-storey building, whilst those in Britain may be single- or double-storey structures. Irrespective of the countries where cottages were and still are popular, the typical cottage was traditionally located in a rural, country, or somewhat remote and peaceful area.
Here, one thinks of seaside cottages, Scottish crofters’ cottages, country cottages, the iconic, thatched, and whitewashed Cape fishermen’s cottages, and holiday cottages – as a privately owned holiday home or as a chalet rental for self-catering and family holiday accommodation.
Cederberg Holiday Cottages
Few places in South Africa’s Western Cape are more hauntingly beautiful, remote, tranquil, and unique than the Cederberg. Although this is the ideal location for a cosy cottage or chalet, this is possibly the last place on earth where those who don’t already know of Kagga Kamma would expect to find this type of welcoming holiday accommodation.
The three founders of Kagga Kamma certainly did not have chalets at which to stay when they first acquired the undeveloped farms that would one day become Kagga Kamma’s unique resort. Initially, they had to camp in tents and bring all their supplies with them in 4×4 vehicles, because of Kagga Kamma’s isolation and the rugged Cederberg terrain.
However, the interest shown in this part of the Cederberg, as expressed by their friends, combined with their own foresight, persuaded them to construct the very first, if rudimentary, stone guest cottage at Kagga Kamma. This was to be the beginning of our resort as you’ll find it today.
Kagga Kamma’s chalets, ideal for longer, self-catering family holidays, are only available to timeshare owners, and DAE and RCI exchanges, as well as rentals via TradeUnipoint.com – subject to availability in all instances. Additionally, timeshare owners qualify for a 30% discount on Kagga Kamma’s range of interesting and enjoyable excursions, with the exceptions of Star Gazing Tours and Quad Bike Safaris.
Each fully equipped, 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom cottage is serviced daily (except on Sundays), and has virtually everything you need to make your Cederberg stay comfortable and convenient. The equipment and facilities include an oven, stove top, fridge, freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, cutlery, crockery, towels, and linens. One type sleeps 6, the other 8 – each with a patio that offers sweeping views over the awe-inspiring Cederberg landscape, an outdoor boma with a braai, and an indoor fireplace/braai.
Alternative Cosy Accommodation
Our truly unusual “cave” rooms are exceptionally popular features at Kagga Kamma, while our hut suites, constructed to resemble the ancient San thatched hut dwellings, are best suited to couples who seek a romantic, somewhat shorter stay in the Cederberg. Two of our outdoor rooms, where couples sleep directly beneath the canopy of stars in the African sky, are season- and weather-dependent options.
Warm, Welcoming Cederberg Hospitality
Kagga Kamma and our Cederberg holiday cottage chalet accommodation have been accorded RCI Top Hospitality Resort, RCI Superior Service in Hospitality, and RCI Hospitality status, reflecting the standards of achievement which we proudly present to our valued guests. We look forward to providing you too with our warm, welcoming Cederberg cottage hospitality.
